The International Academy of Suriname (IAS) is a non-profit, private day school supported by tuition and fees. The program is co-educational, non-residential, non-denominational, and extends from pre-kindergarten (age 3) through grade 12. IAS serves the country of Suriname and its international community by offering an accredited North American education. The school is staffed by a caring community of professional educators. Reflecting the diversity of Suriname, the school is open to students of every race, nationality, and religion.
Bringing strong leaders to the world since 1988!
There is a reason IAS has held the #1 international school distinction for so many years: we care for our students! We carefully attend to every student's needs and design a success path to whatever university or college they desire.
Suriname is a beautiful country–rich in ethnic and bio-diversity. Suriname is the smallest South American country, with nearly 50% of its just over 500 thousand population living in the capital city of Paramaribo. Together these factors create rich educational opportunities for IAS.
IAS is a Pre-K through Grade 12 International School serving the expatriate and local community by providing a solid moral foundation for life while opening a world of opportunities globally.
Students applying for Pre-Kindergarten must have reached the full age of 3 by September 1 of the year they enter IAS to be placed in Pre-K 3.
IAS prepares students for the top colleges and universities in the UK, the Netherlands and the USA. The IAS Advanced Diploma ensures that students will be accepted.
The International Academy of Suriname cooperates with parents to build a strong moral and spiritual foundation for every student.
IAS is blessed with the best and well-maintained facilities to serve children and young people of all ages.
Our external testing results consistently show that our students perform above the norm reference group. The combination of excellent resources, professional teachers and mastery learning result in confident learners.
Suriname abounds with excellent opportunities to explore and apply our learning. The variety of educational opportunities provide students with a broader appreciation of Suriname and of each other.
For more than 34 years, families have been positively impacted by the commitment to our students' success.
I was a 6th Grader with Mr. Ristino before we had to move away. I loved it so much! I got to learn to speak English fluently there and know about God, which I am very thankful for!
We are so pleased with the International Academy of Suriname! When we arrived in August 2021 from Canada we were impressed with the facilities, the teaching staff and with the students! The learning atmosphere is the best. It is obvious that students and teachers love to be at IAS!
I am very grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to teach at the International Academy of Suriname. Friendly colleagues, respectful and kind-hearted students, and a welcoming atmosphere make IAS more than my workplace. It is a space that has provided me with professional growth and a wonderful second family.
I graduated class of 2020. IAS and its teachers have taught me so much. With the utmost confidence I can say that I am blessed with the education I’ve received. There’s a divine light that shines within the school. I can’t help but feel at home each time I go back to visit.
